Knicks-76ers Preview

The New York Knicks proved capable of running new coach Mike D’Antoni’s up-tempo offense in their season-opening win. Their play on the defensive end, though, could use some improvement.

Coming off an impressive offensive performance in its first game of 2008-09, New York travels to Philadelphia on Friday to meet a 76ers team that struggled to make shots in its opener.

–The three-point shooting was significantly different between the teams in the Sixers’ loss to the Raptors. Philadelphia went 5-for-20 (.250) beyond the arc, while Toronto was 10-of-16 (.625). The Raptors spread the floor with perimeter shooters, along with Chris Bosh and Jermaine O’Neal, and the Sixers couldn’t cover everybody.

He knew expectations would be high after he signed a five-year, $82 million contract in July to give the Sixers, a team that made the playoffs last season without a low-post threat, what they needed the most. He also wanted to show that he had fully recovered from a ruptured Achilles’ tendon that kept him out of the first 74 games of 2007-08 as a Clipper.
