Bob Ford: Sixers played it wise and prudent on draft day

June 30th, 2009 admin

Fourteen trades in the NBA coincided with the league’s draft last week. The deals included everything from the glitzy transfer of big names - the trades of Shaquille O’Neal to Cleveland and Vince Carter to Orlando - to the more mundane shuffling of future second-round picks or wads of cash for current second-round picks who might or might not ever see the court.

One may be looking to get out. The other is looking to cash in. Together, based largely on what their agents had to say Friday, starting center Mehmet Okur and backup power forward Paul Millsap could make next week even crazier for the Jazz than already anticipated. Philadelphia 76ers Roster Report

June 28th, 2009 admin

DRAFT PICKS:
Jrue Holiday, G, 6-3, UCLA (first round) — Sixers like him for his defense and ability to play both guard positions, though he expects to play the point in the pros. Likely to be a reserve, at least to start the season.
FREE AGENT FOCUS: It’s all about Andre Miller. Miller becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1.

Utah Jazz: 2010 draft looms large

June 28th, 2009 admin

With the 2009 NBA Draft now in the books, the Jazz finally can look forward to draft day 2010. From their seat, it’s quite a pretty sight. The Jazz own New York’s first-round pick next year, and there no longer are any restrictions on the selection ? even if it ends up being No. 1 overall. And though the Knicks’ recent track record suggests it could be quite high ? ideally high enough to nab the NBA’s greatest player ever, should the ‘10 draft produce such a prospect ?
